paul swail is a qualified IFMGA Mountain Guide with a passion for climbing

As a qualified IFMGA Mountain Guide, Paul’s desire to climb has become the basis on which most of his life decisions have been made, so it’s no surprise that climbing and travelling have taken him all over the world.

Incredible achievement

Based in Chamonix in the French Alps, Paul lives and breathes for climbing and is always keen to push the boundaries. He, amongst two other climbers, were the first group to successfully ascend the 1000m High East Face of the South Avellano tower in Chilean Patagonia, as well as successfully scaling three additional peaks in the process.

Paul enjoys all aspects of climbing and mountain bikin’ so it can be a tricky task finding enough time to fit all the fun in. However, having the Alps on your doorstep lends itself to the challenge!

Interesting facts

  • As a BMG Guide, Paul has gone through extensive and thorough training over a minimum of 3.5 years to achieve and be able to use the IFMGA Carnet.
  • Paul also plays a key role in the promotion of climbing in Ireland

Paul's Passion and skill

Paul also has a big passion for developing climbing at a grassroots level. He identified the significance of teaching young climbers the importance of experiencing the mountains responsibly and safely, so decided to dive into teaching ‘Coaching Climbing Awards’.

 Paul’s main motivation is to get out there, get stuck in and seek out adventure, while maintaining a lifestyle of freedom, quality friendships and good music. He is great at doing the simple things right and living the outdoor lifestyle.
